Hockey Club Charges

#1 , 26 jun 2017 12:25

Hello,

Firstly, sorry I can only write in english.
Secondly, sorry if I should not be asking this question here. I am looking for free legal advice.

I am a member of a hockey club in Amsterdam and need to leave the club.
I received a Inschrijvingsformulier via email when I signed up. In there it states if I want to leave I need to notify them before 1st May (Season starts in September). If I do not notify them before the 1st May they will charge me for the next season in full which is 350 EUR.

This 350 EUR charge is completely excessive and unreasonable and i refuse to pay it. I have given them more than enough notice that I want to leave, I do not believe for a second the inconvenience caused is worth this amount.

Am I legally obliged to pay this fee? Can they take me to court if I do not pay? This is a social sports club where people play as a hobby for fun. I am wondering if they have any right to charge us fines in this way?

Many Thanks for your help!
Tom
